Ethical/Environmental Policy

Here at Elite Marking Systems we have a strong belief in practising good, honest business. You may rest assured that we are doing our very best to ensure a fair and ethical trading practice with our clients and suppliers, whilst pursuing environmentally friendly methods of supply and production.

We are constantly striving to minimise our consumption of resources and raw materials.

We also purchase from suppliers who share our concern for the environment and wherever possible purchase and use recyclable products or products from sustainable sources.

Naturally we can supply you with products made from recycled materials but it is also worth noting that all our paper products for our bags are sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved sources. The FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world's forests.

The FSC is also supported by Greenpeace, The Woodland Trust and The WWF.

We are also proud that our production plant based in China has been awarded the ICTI Code of Business Practices. The ICTI upholds the principles that no underage, forced or prison labour should be employed and that no-one is denied a job because of their gender, ethnic origin or religion, and that factories comply with laws protecting the environment.

Furthermore, the production plant has been certified by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which is the sole national accreditation body recognised by Government to assess against internationally agreed standards.

Accreditation by UKAS is the key to ensuring that consumers, suppliers, purchasers and specifiers can have confidence in the quality of goods and in the provision of services throughout the supply chain. In addition to FSC, UKAS and ICTI certification, the plant is also a member of SEDEX, a membership organisation for businesses committed to the continuous improvement of the ethical performance of their supply chains.

There is major concern from Governments around the globe regarding the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) a hormone mimicking chemical known to be found in high concentration in thermal paper and carbonless copy paper and commonly used in Point Of Sale applications such as receipts. Canada has already banned the use of BPA along with 3 US states, with many more governments moving to ban its use, which have been linked to brain development problems, infertility, heart disease and cancer.

Transfer of the chemical is passed through the skin of those handling it and into the bloodstream, causing the WWF to recommend that human exposure to BPA should be eliminated and companies should be given a duty to report all releases of BPA, further stating that is should feature on the European Pollutant Emmission Register (EPER).

Studies have shown that 11 out of 13 thermal printing papers contain between 8-17g/kg of BPA. Elite Marking Systems is able to supply completely BPA free papers in its Point of Sale receipt paper. This is clearly an ongoing process and we are constantly reviewing our working practices and exercising a positive influence within our industry and look forward to a future of responsible trading, we hope you will join us.
